Our major service is the Physician Liaison Program (PL) which is designed to increase inpatient admissions and outpatient surgeries to your hospital, while strengthening the physician bond with your institution.

What is the Physician Liaison Program (PL)?

The unique feature of the PL Program is its incorporation of a direct sales approach to targeted physicians, using proven and accepted hospital/physician sales methods to optimize hospital occupancy. This is achieved through direct sales calls in the physicians’ offices. Increased admissions are generated by  encouraging a new or stronger physician preference for your hospital and its services.  Traditionally meeting with physicians and promoting good relationships with them has been a function of the hospital administrator. The PL Program is both a refinement and an extension of this activity.

What kind of results can the hospital expect from the PL Program?

The Program utilizes skilled marketing professionals, and a proven systems approach to produce a minimum of 300 incremental patient admissions in the Program’s initial year. Many hospitals exceed this success threshold; in fact, most of our clients’ hospitals have experienced more than 500 incremental admissions annually.

Why can’t my hospital utilize our staff to do this same thing - that is develop and implement a direct sales program to physicians?

The PL Program is the result of more than 20 years of study, investigation, measurement and implementation by HMS, a nationally recognized authority in physician marketing and physician relations programs. Having implemented the PL Program in hospitals nationwide, HMS has been exposed to a variety of hospital environments and operations throughout the United States. We know what works and more importantly what does not work in each situation and why. The PL Program provides the focus, the precise measurement and the critical ongoing sales management expertise generally not available in most  hospitals today.

How can I be assured that the PL Program is working for my hospital?

Evaluating the success of the PL Program is of equal importance with producing the incremental patient admissions for your hospital. Through the use of our copyrighted computerized tracking program, which utilizes your hospital’s data, the Program’s results are measured and presented to your hospital on a regular basis.

How can I justify the PL Program now? Our hospital has no monies allocated for this service in its present budget.

Monies expended for the PL Program can be offset by the income generated from incremental admissions produced by the Program alone. With our clients experiencing annual increases averaging more than $3,000,000 in gross revenues as a result of the PL Program, budgetary adjustments can be justified. The initial expenses for the Program should be recouped in six months. In addition, the Program will provide a sufficient surplus for the hospital to utilize on other projects.

Once the  45-day training period has been completed, increases in admissions can be documented within 30 days.

In any effective sales program it is of paramount importance to have proven sales management techniques to maximize and maintain production. The HMS Regional Manager assigned to your hospital will conduct monthly onsite field sales training and management with the PL Program.
